Dear Friends and Customers,
Welcome back to Esens. This month, I briefly want to talk to you about a growing trend in the fragrance industry: the narrative perfume.
According to a recent article in The Seattle Gazette, narrative
perfumes are cutting edge fragrances that smell like a specific time,
place, or experience. In their truest sense, narrative perfumes don't
necessarily have to smell pleasant. For example, in the screening of
the movie "Perfume", viewers were given fragrance strips with the aroma
of greasy hair and urine to evoke the feeling of living in 18th century
France. Narrative scents can be used to replicate smells of death, war,
sex or even fictional characters.
While not directly called so, I like to think of a person's custom fragrance as a form of narrative perfume but on the most intimate level.
As I speak to customers before I design their fragrances, they often
spontaneously tell me stories about their lives, relationships, health,
job, family, dreams, and beliefs. I feel a profound obligation to my
customer as I hold this deeply personal information in confidence. This
honor extends to designing a fragrance that is a genuine expression or
story about who the person is. Utterly precious!
When you are having a fragrance created for yourself or someone you love, as you communicate with me, think about the story
you want me to illustrate through the fragrance and share your vision
with me. Each piece of information you share is like chapter in a book
about you. Literally, the bits of data you provide resonate in me
intuitively with individual fragrance notes that I may select for your
blend. Your words filter through me metaphorically and instinctively
like strokes on my olfactory keyboard.
I
want you to know that you can trust me to listen to your narrative and
design a fragrance that honors you. In turn, you can wear your custom
fragrance as a subtle yet confident statement of every experience you
have had in arriving at this moment in time. Working together, we
create a distinct fragrant statement of who you are.

Contest: Man's Signature Fragrance!
I
think is about time we have a man's signature scent after creating 3
woman's fragrances (i.e., Mystique...for winter, Ocotillo Moon for
spring and Three Graces for summer), don't you? Let's have another
contest where you and all your friends submit names for the man's
signature scent! I want to move fast on this so that I can launch the
new fragrance in time for Christmas. So please email me your name
suggestions. I will select the top 5 names that inspire me the most and
post them the first week in November in my newsletter and on my site so
you can vote and select the winning name. Once the winning name is
clear, I will create the fragrance. There will be great prizes for the
person who entered the winning name and everyone who either submits a
name or votes will receive a sample of the created blend.
We've had such fun each time we've done this so I thank you in advance for your enthusiasm!
Submit up to 3 names for the man's signature fragrance. Deadline is October 28, 2008.

In
a few short weeks, we will be voting for our next president. I have
been following things very closely like I am sure you have. I learned
something really interesting recently that I want to pass along to you:
Depending on which state you live in, you will not be allowed to vote
if you show up at the poll wearing emblems, buttons, or clothes that
promote one candidate or another. Wow! Is that something? For many of
us, depending on our age, this is the most critical election of our
lifetimes. Exercise your right to vote, however simply dress in a
manner that does not forecast your position. Personally, I do not
believe any one should be restricted from voting based on what they
wear, but simultaneously, I don't want any of you to miss out
participating in such a vital election.
Until next time, I wish you peace and I send you my respect.
