Kathleen Dreier is a passionate and accomplished photographer
Along with photography, I have pursued all sorts of creative avenues over the years, including dance, voice, drumming, fine art, and fragrances. My twenty-plus years as a social worker taught me to pay attention to people, their posture, mood, and energy. What once was an avocation has become a professional venture. I have been fortunate to study with many respected photographers, including Steve Meckler, Pete Trexler, David Gracia, and Kevin Anderson. My particular passion is capturing people naturally in what I call their essence state, a place of comfort, so much so that they often do not realize they are being photographed. To me, the true beauty of a person is captured in those moments when they are seen by what to them is an unknown observer. Rather than a voyeur, I consider myself an honorable witness of people, so they can understand through my images just how amazing they are. Even if a person knows I am photographing him or her, I work so that my subject trusts me so well that my camera becomes simply an extension of our eye contact.
